Abstract

Young children’s screen use has become a routine part of family life, making parental management and school–family support increasingly important. This study examined parents’ needs and readiness for school-based parenting education on screen-use management at TK Al Amin Banjarbaru. A descriptive quantitative, cross-sectional survey was conducted with 225 parents or guardians of children aged 5–6 years. A 20-item, five-point Likert questionnaire covered four domains: child screen-use risk indicators, parental screen-management practices, parenting education needs and baseline literacy, and readiness for school-based parenting education. Descriptive analysis showed low child screen-use risk indicators (M = 2.10). After reverse-coding the two risk-oriented parental items, parental screen-management practices were high (M = 4.16), particularly for content monitoring (M = 4.32) and household rules (M = 4.31). Parents showed a selective need profile: demand for alternative non-screen activities was high (M = 3.85), while the need for direct screen-time guidance was moderate (M = 3.36). Readiness for school-based parenting education was high (M = 4.06), including strong support for school–parent collaboration (M = 4.19). The findings support the planning of practical, school-facilitated parenting education, but they do not establish intervention effectiveness. Future implementation should be followed by process and outcome evaluation.
